A polyp is an abnormal growth of the lining of the colon. Most polyps are benign (not cancerous) but may have the potential, if left untreated, to transform into cancer with time. Some polyps may have cancer within them.
You will be taken to the recovery room where the nurse will continue to monitor you until the sedation wears off, approximately 30 – 45 minutes. You will be able to change into your clothes, be given a muffin and juice, then meet with your physician to discuss the colonoscopy. The medication may affect your reflexes and judgement for the rest of the day. For this reason you MUST have someone accompany you so that they may take you home. Furthermore, it is important, for the next 24 hours, that you
